Are your tents waterproof and do they need to be weathered?Updated a month ago
All of our bell tents have been treated with a waterproofing agent on them which will cause the water on the surface to ‘bead’ after a downpour. You will literally see beads of water forming on the outer surface of the canvas. When it is time to reproof, you will notice that the water no longer beads, and that the bell tent retains the moisture in the canvas for longer.
Please see the article on how to clean and reproof your tent here.
With canvas in general, weathering can be quite a normal process due to the nature of the fabric. Weathering is when the bell tent can sometimes experience a couple of minor leaks on the first use or so, once this happens, after the tent has completely dried the fibres in the fabric will become watertight, which will prevent any further leaks occurring in the future - until it's time to reproof. Therefore, they will not need to be weathered, but a few small leaks on the first couple of uses will be totally natural. If your tent is still leaking and it's not related to the above, please send a photo of the tent from the outside when it's pitched and any photos of the water inside the tent and where it's coming in.
